Quick start guide Quick start guide
  1. Design
  2. I like the design of both watches, I think each of these two stands out with an outstanding design when you take into consideration the weight, size, sturdiness and attractiveness. From the table above, you’ll notice both watches are lightweight, compact, sturdy materials and attractive.

However, while a MIP LCD powers the display of Forerunner 245, it’s AMOLED for Versa 2 which is richer in color and more attractive, but both watches can easily be read under sunlight. Versa 2’s 1.4 inches display is slightly bigger than 1.2 inches, obviously because of the square shape. It’s a worrtwhile difference especially for those who can barely read contents on a small display. And for a smartwatch, every added display in a compact size is very important.

I’ve not used any of these watches yet, so I can’t really say which one offers more watch faces, but both watches from reviews by users offer a fair share of preloaded watch faces that allow you to choose your preferred choice.
I can say navigation is easy on both watches with touch sensitive screen and physical buttons eventhough Forerunner 245 has 5 physical buttons and not touch sensitive.

Subsequently, investigating the materials, while Versa 2 has a case made of aluminium, Forerunner 245 has a case made of reinforced fiber polymer with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covering the display of both smartwatches. These are sturdy materials used for many smartwatches you find on the market even the Apple Watch 5.

Both watches are also rated 5ATM which makes these two waterproof up to 50 meters. You can wear any of these to the pool or ocean, but only Forerunner 245 will track your heart rate while swimming – a feature that’s also present in Huawei Watch GT 2.

Overall, the design of both smartwatches looks outstanding, attractive and elegant.

  3. Storage and Media
  4. Both Versa 2 and Forerunner 245 Music come with storage capacity that allows you to take your favorite tracks with you. This is a nice feature that can be a source of motivation especially while working out. There’s a microphone built into Versa 2 which Forerunner 245 lacks, and as a result, Alexa voice assistant is present and allows you to perform tasks and control smarthome things simply with your voice.

  5. Fitness tracking
  6. There’s no doubt that these two are some of the best activity trackers you can buy on the market when you consider the sophisticated fitness tracking technology of both Garmin and Fitbit. Both Versa 2 and Forerunner 245 will track your daily activities such as steps, distance, floors climbed to more advanced metrics like complete sleep tracking, continuous heart rate tracking, menstrual cycle logging, stress management, blood oxygen tracking with preloaded sport modes.

However, while there’s inbuilt GPS in Forerunner 245, the Versa 2 needs to connect to your phone to enable GPS functions. While this might not seem like a big difference, working out and carrying your phone along can be bring some level of inconvenience a couple of times.

There are also some activity tracking features I noticed on Forerunner 245, but not present on Versa 2 like incidental fall detection that could help you get help quick when a fall occurs, not to mention features like respiration, hydration and heart rate tracking while swimming. In other words, I think the Forerunner 245 with inbuilt GPS and more activity tracking features is a more comprehensive fitness tracker.

  7. Battery life
  8. It’s worth noting that both Forerunner 245 and Versa 2 have a long battery life that let’s you go multidays from a single charge. However from reviews by users, Forerunner 245 has a longer battery life of about 7 days compared to about 5 days or more of Versa 2. That’s a significant increase in battery life.

  9. Price

The price of Forerunner 245 is almost twice the price of Versa 2, yet both offer about same features.

Which is better?

It’s difficult to say which is a better smartwatch, and like I stated earlier, these two are some of the best smartwatches with very high ratings from users. It all depends on you to decide.

I still will go for the Versa 2 which I recently ordered alongside Galaxy Watch for my reviews which will be posted here.
